Class Recap - week of 9/29

What a fantastic week we had! Monday we wrapped up "Group Talk" where you were assigned different aspects of The Silmarillion to consider and evaluate. Together you uncovered more about the role of the Valar, Oaths and Doom, Power and Ownership, The Sindar (Grey Elves), Morgoth's Methods, Light vs Darkness, and Leadership vs. Dictatorship. You all showed great team work in looking to the text for evidence and discussing the different events that are unfolding throughout The Silmarillion. 

Wednesday we jumped into our game "The Jury's Out." And wow, what a great job you're doing so far! We started off with strong opening statements, our first round of questioning, and then our presentation of evidence. For Monday, we'll pick up with cross examinations. 

Continue reading to chapter 24 for Monday. Use textual evidence to help you as you continue to develop your arguments. Remember, it is also okay to use credible external sources. This can be a useful way to build your argument. Take a look at the resources page for recommended sources. 

Make sure to continue working together as a team! Teamwork is the goal here. We always want to make sure we're fostering an environment where we're listening thoughtfully to the ideas around us. It's okay to disagree, but sometimes that means  you may need to make the group decision to compromise. Talking about different ideas and viewpoints is one of the best ways to unfold and develop our understanding. So let's make sure we continue to do that! You are such a smart and creative group. Each one of you have something of value to contribute. I'm looking forward to hearing your continued arguments on Monday!
